My son often says I am the only person he knows that can see a piece of trash and see it as something of beauty with a function. I would define having a junk soul as celebrating the story and lives that came before us. I find relaxation and joy in spending times in spaces that have mixes of pieces that all have a story to tell. I find that vintage pieces bring my home to life, entertaining to life… my art to life. I recently worked on re-doing my back porch– southern and inspired. I searched many outdoor stores and could not find the right pieces— the one! I know it when I see it. Past the outdoor stores and too a junk store–I found Vintage rusted iron chairs with a swing motion—instant this is the one feeling– and inspiration and life to a porch that once held bikes and junk. It is not complete, a work in progress… but, the heart is there! My family is no longer surprised by me looking at something odd and saying… this would be a great xxx! Junk Soul is more than JUNK. Soul is living life with passion and an honor to the past. I cherish my grandmother and honor daily in many steps of my life. I honor the lives of the people that owned the pieces I have, the words that they wrote, the tools they used, the techniques that worked in the past– brought to life in my art and life today. I want to use my junk soul to share this life with the world— for those that want to listen.
